Photo Art Friday - Water!

Yipeee!  Do you know what today is?  It's Photo Art Friday

Since PDPA Photo Art Friday moved to the first Friday of the month, I've only participated once.  This is mostly because I seem to loose track of the days with an amazing amount of ease.  Example: Recently someone asked me how my summer went...to which I replied, "I don't know I'll tell you at the end of August"

So...this week's Challenge?   Water.

For my niece's second birthday (beginning of August - which I did remember) my mother (her grandmother) decided to buy her a water table.  So I figure for this challenge we'll lean toward the literal sense of the word water.

[Note: Had "Toes" not been featured for a recent WW I probably would have used that picture instead]

pdpa Water Challenge Photo

For this challenge I used:
  • Pdpa Turquoise Splash Texture
  • a picture of my niece

  • pdpa Water Challenge How To

Photo Art FridayOverall I'm not too sure what I think.  More often than not, I prefer to be more subtle with the textures.  That being said...it could have turned out worse.

Feel free to offer your ideas, tips, and suggestions.

    Photo Art Friday - Fire

Whoohoo! PDPA Photo Art Friday is back.  While I'm happy that Bonnie, our wonderful host, had time to herself to work on her amazing pieces of art (many of which she turns into terrific textures and backgrounds) I was really missing the Photo Art Friday challenges!

This week's Challenge?  Dreamy or Ethereal.

My first thought was I should find a cute baby picture ...but then I remembered the crackling fire at the last BBQ.  So, I figured why not. After all, these challenges are all about experimenting within a supportive community.

I give you my piece for this week, Fire:

    Dreamy or Etheral Challenge

    For this challenge I used:
    • Pdpa Happy Day texture
    • a picture of fire (taken a recent BBQ - those pictures should be edited shortly)
    • Vintage photo frame from Photoshop Elements.
    Dreamy or Etheral Challenge Parts

Photo Art FridayOverall I'm happy with the look....although I'm wishing I left a bit more space between the frame and the top and the bottom edges of the piece.  Maybe I'll have to go back and experiment with it a bit more.

    Photo Art Friday - Self-Portrait

This week’s challenge over at Pixel Dust Photo Art – Photo Art Friday was to create a self-portrait.

For this project I took two black and white negatives and digitally uploaded them to my computer giving me the ability to manipulate them with Photoshop.  While I have to admit editing this way was much easier and faster than working in the photo lab, it wasn’t quite as satisfying as watching the image materialize as the chemicals react.
That being said, I kinda like my final image.
    Me and Myself

    For this challenge I used:
    • Pdpa A Page in Time texturs
    • two negatives (digitally edited and inverted)

Me & Myself - Made up of

Photo Art Friday I should admit, knew what I wanted because in the past I had created almost the same image by exposing both negatives to the same piece of photo paper.  What made this project fun was testing to see if what was created using chemicals could be created through digital manipulation.  If you look closely, you can see three of me. ;)

Photo Art Friday - Yellow Abstract

This week’s challenge over at Pixel Dust Photo Art – Photo Art Friday was to create an abstract piece.

Not my favorite, but I give you Yellow:
    Yellow Abstract

    For this challenge I used:
    • PDPA Titled Script Texture
    • PDPA Grunge Surprise Test
    • PDPA Painted Footpath Texture
    • Picture of lamps
    Yellow Abstract
Photo Art Friday I’m fairly sure what is above isn’t really abstract, but I ran out of ideas and this was the best I could come up with.  Anyone know any good articles or posts about abstracts that can help?  Feel free to toss some tips and ideas my way.  ;)

Photo Art Friday - Connected Friendship

The challenge this week over at Pixel Dust Photo Art – Photo Art Friday was to deal with the theme of connected/connecting/connections in some way.  After spending Saturday in Jersey celebrating friend’s birthday…I had a good idea what to focus on.

In Jersey lives a particular core group of people who are wonderful and crazy, nerve wracking and a joy to be around.   At times they can be jesters, comedians, bartenders, and pranksters.  Always, they are dependable and big hearted.  My husband grew up with these crazy loons he shares no blood with but calls family.  After spending almost a decade getting to know them, I am thankful to be able to call them friends.

    I give you, Connected Friendship:

    Connected Friendship

    I used:

Photo Art FridayThis is my first time layering so many pictures. I think I'd like to try to erase a little closer to get rid of some of the halos.

Meh, I'll keep on working on it.  Feel free to send some suggestions and feedback.  Thanks!

Photo Art Friday - Bamboo Dreams Challenge

This week's Photo Art Friday's challenge was to use a picture of your own choosing and the Bamboo Dreams texture/background from Pixel Dust Photo Art (pdpa)'s website to create a piece of art.

Again, it sounded like fun....so I made my second attempt at participation:

    pdpa - second attempt

    I used:
    •  pdpa Bamboo Dreams texture/ background
    • A picture of my sister playing with her daughter (my niece) from our last photo shoot (aka visit and playtime).
    • A quote that I liked found online.

    Second Attempt - Used copy

Photo Art FridayI'm not sure how I'd compare this piece to the last one.  When I first saw the challenge I was hoping to use a picture of some beautiful flower...however it quickly came to my attention that I rarely shoot pictures of flowers.  Mostly I have pictures of friends and family.

That being the case, you get the picture above.  ;)  As written in an earlier post, hopefully as I participate in more challenges skills (and imagination) will improve.

Photo Art Friday - Dropped Petals Challenge

A week or so ago I came across Pixel Dust Photo Art (pdpa), a really nifty blog where you can find some of the coolest textures and backgrounds.  Each Friday Pixel DustPhoto Art hosts a challenge.  This Friday the challenge was to create a piece of abstract photo art using the Dropped Petals texture/background, one other pdpa texture, and one or two other images.

Sounded like fun…so I give you my first attempt at a challenge:

    Challenge I

    I used:

Photo Art FridayNot sure how well I did.  I think I need some kind of focal point.  Hopefully as I participate in more challenges my skills will improve.  Wish me luck.  ;)
